British Monarchy?

After the heartbreak of 2007, Lewis Hamilton made up for it by winning in 2008. But only just. The championship that went down to the wire was decided in the final race of the season and by a mere point. Felipe Massa, who had more wins than anyone else in the season, was unlucky to have lost the title to Hamilton.

Heikki Kovalainen was the other driver for 2008 and would continue to be the second driver for 2009. He did have an okay season, but nothing to overshadow the phenomena that is now Lewis Hamilton. With Ron Dennis’ move out of the active team principal seat, there may be some adjusting to be done for the team. What’s worse is that in pre-season testing, there wasn’t the same spark as the car had in 2008. And then, there’s KERS.

2009 saw Lewis Hamilton bag only two wins and further three podiums to finish a disappointing fifth in the Championship. With forty-nine points in the kitty for McLaren, Heikki managed to add another 22 points. The tally boosted them past Ferrari to finish third in the Constructors Championship by just a point.

For the 2010 season, McLaren has managed to bag the reigning champion Jenson Button to partner Lewis Hamilton. This lethal combo will surely have the track ablaze as both have a point to prove this season. With Lewis looking a little lack-luster and Jenson currently the ‘Golden Boy’, McLaren has two drivers who are potentially Champions for the 2010 season. The new Mercedes GP will be a major threat, and the sharp Ferrari lineup will also be threat to the Championship bid. The all-Brit team will surely want to pop a surprise, and only time will tell if the other teams were ready and all set for what McLaren can bring to the grid!
