US F1 signs Lopez for their First Season
Jan 27, 2010 - 02:02 PM
After testing for Renault for three years, Lopez was offered to race for the US based team. Lopez, initially enjoyed successes at the Formula Renault Championship and the F3000 series. He has also raced in the GP2 season, finishing ninth and tenth in his two year stint.
Since 2006, Lopez has been knocking on the doors of F1, testing for Renault, but was not offered the race seat until the bevy of new teams roared into F1 for the 2010 season. Lopez will be the 24th Argentine to race in the F1. Formula 1 enjoys huge popularity in South America, especially Brazil and Argentina. Together the two countries have given us plenty of talent for us to cheer for, most notably, Ayrton Senna and most recently, Rubens Barrichello.
Jose Maria Lopez was confirmed by the team earlier this week, just returning from his consecutive title wins in the TC2000 Title series. While US F1 gets geared up for the season, it still has to confirm the second driver for the team, and carry out the testing on the cars.
