Montoya strikes pace in Monaco
May 19, 2005 - 05:06 PM
Today cars ventured out for the first time on the streets of Monaco, and rather popularized the chicane with a series of small mishaps. In the one-hour-long session, we saw Alexander Wurz, Ricardo Zonta, Patrick Friesacher, Christijan Albers, David Coulthard, Jarno Trulli, Nick Heidfeld, Tiago Monteiro, Narain Karthikeyan and Fernando Alonso miss their apexes. However, it was Klien, in his Star-Wars liveried Red Bull, who made it off the road in Ste Devote. He missed the course but managed to touch nothing.
The star of the session was Juan Pablo Montoya, who was the quickest in his McLaren, timing 1m 17.152s. He pushed Alonso down after setting lap time of 1m 17.301s.
Michael Schumacher was fourth with 1m 17.640s. He was ahead of Giancarlo Fisichella on 1m 17.869s, and with such close timings, it only promises a competitive race weekend.
