Finally the Engines Roar!
Feb 02, 2010 - 12:10 PM
Formula One, season 2010 has been one of the most anticipated seasons in a long, long time. The cars were finally seen on track in Valencia on the first day of the three day multi-team testing. The brand new cars were finally pitted against each other on the time sheets, and surprisingly, Massa, driving the new Ferrari F10, topped the timesheet with an impressive time of 1m 12.574s. This is the first time Massa has been seen driving post his accident in Hungary and sustained head injuries which cut his 2009 season short.
Pedro De La Rosa was the second quickest in his BMW Sauber. De La Rosa had previously been a test driver for McLaren-Mercedes, but has finally been granted a race seat on the grid by the Swiss team. Michael Schumacher has proven that he is not in any way rusty after his long sabbatical. He posted third fastest time, after driving for 40 laps in his new Mercedes GP W01. His team mate and fellow German, Nico Rosberg posted fourth fastest. McLaren test driver, Gary Paffett was given the honors of taking the new car out from the pits for the first time. He posted an impressive 1m 13.846s after 86 laps.
Rubens Barrichello, now racing for Williams, finished sixth in his new FW32. He clocked a little more than 1m 14s, after 75 laps. Sebastian Buemi (Toro Rosso) and Robert Kubica (Renault), brought up the tail end.
Day One drew to an end with eight drivers taking up the challenge, but there are a couple of days more to go at Valencia, and inevitably the competition will heat up when the real big guns will be drawn out. So watch out, when the going gets tough, the tough get going!
