Anthony Davidson
Super Aguri
In four years of involvement with Formula 1, Anthony Davidson has been unlucky to race only in three races. What’s worse, all three finished with him retiring! He has moved from Minardi to BAR to Honda before getting himself a full seat with Super Aguri for 2007.
Davidson will be one of four Britons on the starting grid in Melbourne on March 18, with 22-year-old Lewis Hamilton making his debut for McLaren as team mate to double world champion Fernando Alonso. But perhaps four seasons of testing does take its toll. “But after doing the testing and it going so well, especially for me, getting a lot of laps in and with the car being reliable I am definitely a lot more excited now. And that is it - the testing is over for me and the next step is the race weekend,” he says almost disbelievingly that he will be around for the Sunday race this time!
His career in F1 has been on since 2001 when he became a test driver for BAR. The following season, Davidson started two races for Minardi who had temporarily suspended Alex Yoong since he had failed to qualify for three races. As luck would have it, he qualified close enough to senior team-mate Mark Webber, but spun out on both occasions. He would next race only 2005 in Malaysia.
After spending some time in 2006 doing TV and radio commentary, he has finally been confirmed as a driver for Super Aguri alongside Takuma Sato. Davidson has had a long journey and surely there is more to go…
