Owned by Richard Branson, Virgin Racing has the financial backup needed to run successfully and deliver a competitive performance. Manor Racing, which enjoyed huge success in junior formulae will now promote itself to the top of the league Formula One. Wirth Research Limited designed, tested and refined the car entirely digitally under the leadership of Nick Wirth. The team is based in Sheffield/Bicester, UK. John Booth heads the team as the Team Principal. With Lucas di Grassi and Timo Glock behind the wheel, the future looked bright but 2010 went by without the team claiming a single point.
Alex Tai headed the team earlier but within a month of official launch in 2010 gave up his position to John Booth. Virgin Racing also plans on creating a 'Driver Academy' wherein it will have teams in all the stages up to the Formula 1. Lloyd Banking Group has also injected ten million pounds into the team, a sure sign that the banking industry is finding its feet again after the recent economic crisis.
With all the technical backup and financial stability it'll ever need, Virgin Racing surely looks like a team to look out for. Unfortunately, the team is yet to make its mark. Will 2011 be yet another disappointing year or will the team be able to use its resources and put up a noteworthy performance?
