British GP: Lap by Lap Report
Welcome to Round 10 of the Formula 1 race. It’s the 9th time the Red Bulls have taken pole position. It’s sunny today thankfully and we hope we are in for some good race and overtaking with the new modifications done on the Silverstone track.
The Grid:
It’s the Redbull on top with Vettel taking pole.Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton are right behind them in row 2.Rosberg and Kubica are P5 and P6. Felipe Massa and Rubens Barrichello are on row 4. Pedro de la Rosa and Michael Schumacher complete the top ten. Adrian Sutil and Kamui Kobayashi are on P11 and 12. Nico Hulkenberg and Jenson Button are on the 7th row. Vitantonio Liuzzi and Vitaly Petrov are on P15 and P16. The Toro Rossos are next on the grid. Kovalainen and Glock are on row 10. Trulli and diGrassi are on row11 and the HRT drivers Karun Chandhok and Sakon Yamamoto complete the grid.
Race Start:
All the cars are on the grid. The five red lights illuminate and we are on for the Silverstone GP. Vettel runs wide at the start. Vettel has a tyre puncture and so does Massa. Both enter into the pits for a tyre change. Webber makes a good start and so does Hamilton. Alonso loses pace in the beginning and falls into the 5th place. Nico takes advantage of the slow start of Alonso and so does Kubica. Schumi has a great start climbing into 7th position.
Lap 5
Webber does the fastest lap. He is currently in pole pole position. Lewis is in 2nd place, Kubica is in 3rd, Nico in 4th, Alonso in 5th, Rubens is in 6th place and Schumi who is 10 seconds behind race leader is in 7th place. Alonso is all over the back of Nicos car. He is waiting for the right place to overtake. Kubica is slow compared to Nico and Alonso and he has already created a big gap from the race leader. Kubica is now 10 seconds behind race leader.
Lap 8
Massa joins in 23rd place and Vettel is in 24th. Webber meanwhile does the fastest lap. The Mercedes pit is getting busy for one of their cars to enter the pits. There is no change in the top 10 positions so far.
Lap 13
Lewis does the fastest lap. Schumi enters into the pits for a change of tyres. A routine pit stop for him. Licas di Grassi retires from the race. Alonso, Rubens and Kamui Kbayashi also enter into the pits for their change of tyres. Kobayashi gets ahead of Schumi on the exit of the pit lane. A great pit stop by Kobayashi.
Lap 16
Nico, Sutil and Petrov enter into the pits. Nico had done the fastest lap before he got in. He joins in at 7th place ahead of Kubica and Alonso.
Lap 17
Alonso does a superb overtaking manoeuvre on Kubica. Kubica is very unhappy at the way Alonso overtook him. The stewards will be checking the replay for sure. Alonso is now in 6th position. He is closing in on Nico.
Lap 20
Its race over for Kubica. Looks like a mechanical failure for him. Meanwhile Webber does the fastest lap once again. He and Lewis are sharing fastest lap times.
Lap 21
Button enters into the pits. He was in 3rd position ahead of Nico Hulkenberg. He joins in 6th position behind Alonso. Jaime is trying to get past Button but fails to do so. Meanwhile its Webber who is in 1st place, followed by Lewis in 2nd, Nico Hulkenberg is in 3rd, Nico Rosberg is in 4th, Alonso in 5th and Button is in 6th place.
Lap 27
Vettel is now in 17th position and Massa is in 16th. Drive through penalty been given to Alonso.
Lap 28
Safety car has been deployed. There is debris on the track from Pedro de La Rosa’s front wing. Jaime gets into the pits. Alonso cannot do the drive through as the safety car is on the track. He can only do it after the safety car gets back into the pits. It’s very unfortunate for him. Meanwhile Webber is in 1st place.
Lap 30
Safety car will be in at the end of this lap. Alonso does his drive through penalty. Webber does a great start. Its Webber in 1st place, Lewis in 2nd, Nico in 3rd, Button is in 4th , Rubens is in 5th place. Alonso joins in 16th place. Ahead of them is Schumi in 8th place. Sutil does a great overtaking maneuver on Schumi. Sutil is in 7th place.
Lap 35
Alonso gets past Buemi. He is now in 15th place. His teammate Massa is now in 13th place. Meanwhile its Webber, Hamilton and Nico Rosberg who complete the top 3 positions. Vitaly Petrov is in 10th and Vettel who is driving superbly is now in 11th place.
Lap 38
Vettel gets past Petrov and Nico Hulkenberg. A great drive by him. Its Michaels turn now. Vettel is closing in on Michael.
Lap 40
Massa into the pits. And guess what, there is no one in the pit lane. This is a complete disaster for Massa. Meanwhile Vettel gets past Schumi. Vettel is now in 8th place. Alonso meanwhile is trying to get past Tonio. This is the battle for 12th position. Both are eyeing for the last championship points. Tonio is putting up a great fight though.
Lap 45
Webber is in 1st position followed by Lewis Hamilton and then it is Nico Rosberg in 3rd place. Vettel is now fighting for 7th position with Adrian Sutil. Vettel started the race in 24th position and is now in 8th. Meanwhile both the Ferraris are out of the championship points.
Lap 49
Alonso and Vettel are both trying to get past the Force India cars of Sutil and Tonio desperately. Alonso is driving the wheels of the Ferrari.
Lap 50
Alonso into the pits for a change of tyres. He has a shunt with Tonio. Vettel is still trying his best to overtake Sutil but fails. There are just two laps remaining. Nico Hulkenberg is all over Schumi.
Final Lap
Vettel finally gets past Sutil. He nudges him slightly. Schumi tries taking advantage of the incident but fails. Meanwhile Webber wins the British Grandprix. Lewis takes 2nd place. Nico comes 3rd, Jenson comes home in 4th place. Vettel finishes in 7th place ahead of Sutil and Michael Schumacher. A disaster for both the Ferraris. They finish in 14th and 15th. Karun Chandhok takes 19th place. See you in two weeks time at Hockenheim.
