Sebastian Buemi debuted in the Toro Rosso team in 2009 and is now moving into his second season in Formula One. Buemi is currently placed 16th in the championship with six points. After his good end of the season performance Toro Rosso signed him up for the 2010 season.
Buemi in usual style started his career with karting and later moved on to the Formula BMW series in 2004 and stayed put for two years. He finished third in his first season and later bagged the second position in the championship in 2005. Additionally, he also finished runner-up in the Formula BMW World Final.
Although, Sebastian Buemi started with the Spanish F3, he moved on to Formula Three Euroseries after just one round. In the first year in the championship he finished 12th. He decided to stick around in the F3 Euroseries for the next season too, a move that paid out brilliantly. He finished Second in the Championship, behind Romain Grosjean. He also contested in the Macau Grand Prix and the Masters of Formula Three.
He then took up racing duties for the Swiss A1GP team, helping the team to eight position overall. Although Buemi was called at a very short notice to replace Michael Ammermuller at the ART Racing team, GP2, he surprised everyone by qualifying fourth and finishing seventh. In 2008 he joined the GP2 Asia Series with Arden International and finished the season in second place with a win and four second place finishes. In the main GP2 season he finished sixth over all in the same season, picking up 50 points in 20 races.
In September 2007, Red Bull offered him testing at Jerez, where he clocked a good time to be judged third fastest. In January 2008, Red Bull confirmed Buemi as their test and reserve driver for the season. Post the test driver season, Toro Rosso signed up Buemi for a race seat, for the 2009 season. In the first race in Australia, Buemi scored a eighth place finish, and was later promoted to seventh after Lewis Hamilton was disqualified in the Jarno Trulli incident. He scored a point again in the Chinese GP, finishing eighth from a tenth place start. After the mid season non-performance, he managed to pull up his pace at the end, picking up three consecutive top ten qualifying and picking up a seventh place finish in Brazil to follow up with an eighth place in the final Abu Dhabi race.
Buemi will start for Toro Rosso again for the 2010 season, with the race in Bahrain. It will certainly be an important season for Buemi as alongside will be many debutants trying to make a mark in Formula One. Will his year old seniority matter?
