The remaining Force India driver, Vitantonio Liuzzi is on the 11th row alongside Sakon Yamamoto who is replacing Karun Chandhok for the race. Lucas di Grassi and Timo Glock following a gearbox change and a gear ratio change complete the grid.

The Race:

The five lights illuminate…… and it’s a poor start for Vettel. He fights to keep Alonso behind him and Massa takes advantage and overtakes from the left. Vettel slips out of the track but reenters. It’s a Ferrari 1-2 with Vettel in hot pursuit. The Toro Rosso’s have a bit of a moment, a rear wing falls off and its debris all over the tracks and the yellow flags are out.

Lap 2

It’s Massa leading the pack followed by Alonso, Vettel, Webber, Hamilton, Button, Kubica, Schumacher, Rosberg and Kobayashi completing the top ten. Force India is having a bad day as Adrian Sutil comes to the pits for a new nose. The Toro Rossos both enter the pits and its end of the road for Sebastien Buemi.

Lap 5

Bad comes to worse as Sutil pits again. A battle for P11 erupts between Barrichello and Petrov.

Lap 8

Massa is dominating the race as gap between team mates Alonso grows to 1.37 seconds. Rosberg fights to retain position against relentless Kobayashi.

Lap 12

Massa sets the fastest lap 1:18.835. at the end of the lap, Vettel dives into the pits to change into the harder tyres. He reenters the race at P6 right in front of Kubica.

Lap 14

Alonso and Webber dive into the pits. Alonso exits at 4th but Webber has to be content with 9th.Its Massa still in front with Hamilton, Button, Alonso, Vettel, Kubica, Schumacher, Rosberg, Webber and Kobayashi in the top ten

Lap 21

Alonso and Massa Battles for position but a bad marker helps Massa retain his position.

Lap 24

Massa sets the fastest lap at 1:18.711

It’s Massa followed by Alonso, Vettel, Hamilton, Button, Webber, Hulkenberg, de la Rosa, Kubica, Rosberg, Schumacher, Petrov and Kobayashi in the top ten.

Lap 34

Alonso is catching up with Massa. The gap between the driver has been reduced to 2.015 seconds. Hulkenberg and de la Rosa battles for 7th and de la Rosa emerges victorious.

Lap 37

Alonso sets the fastest lap 1:17.666. Ferrari has been dominating the entire race and its seems that the only driver who can match Massa’s pace is his team mate Alonso.

Lap 43

Vettel wakes up from his dull run and sets the fastest lap 1:17.242. he is still 6 seconds behind the race leader Lap 48

Alonso has set the fastest lap time 1:17.012

Massa gets a peculiar radio message “Alonso is faster.Understood the message?”. Such a poorly coded team order is sure to race a few flags with the FIA. A few turns later, Massa momentarily moves out of race line and slows down. Alonso goes ahead and takes the race lead It’s now Alonso as the race leader, followed by Massa, Vettel, Hamilton, Button, Webber, de la Rosa, Kubica,Rosberg and Schumacher.

Lap 55

Di Grassi is out of the race. Massa is 2.707 seconds behind Alonso and Vettel is 5.433 seconds behind him.

Lap 58

Alonso still retains race lead. Behind him is Massa and Vettel closing in on theFerraris. The two Mclarens are far behind him. Webber is sixth behind them, followed by Kubica, Rosberg, Schumacher and Petrov.

Lap 64

Alonso sets the fastest lap 1:16.103

Webber goes off the track for a moment but holds on to his position.

Final Lap

Vettel is fast approaching but the Ferraris are too far ahead. Alonso takes the chequered flag, Massa comes in second and the team thanks him for being so magnanimous and Vettel comes in at third. Had he woken up a few laps early or had the race been a few laps longer, we might probably have had a different result. None of the six drivers have been able to strike gold at their home grand prix but at least the fastest lap belongs to one. Vettel sets the fastest lap at 1:16.103.
