European GP: Lap by Lap Report

Welcome to Valencia. Its nice and sunny and the temperature is about 26 C. The two Red Bulls are back again in the front row of the grid.

Vettel takes pole position. Its Vettels 4th pole of the season and the 4th front row Red Bull. It is race 9th of the 2010 Formula1 season and has 57 laps.

The Grid:
Both Red Bulls are on the front row of the grid. Then its Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso right behind them. Felipe Massa and Robert Kubica are on P5 and P6. Jenson Button and Nico Hulkenberg are on the fourth row, Rubens Barrichello and Vitaly Petrov are on the fifth row of the grid, Sebastien Buemi and Nico Rosberg are on P11 and P12, The Force India cars are on the seventh row, Michael Schumacher and Pedro de la Rosa on the eighth, Jamie Alguesuari and Kamui Kobayashi on the ninth, row ten are the Lotus cars, the Virgin cars ahead of the HRT drivers complete the grid.

Race Start:
All the cars are on the grid. As always the Five lights illuminate.... and the race is on!

Lewis and Alonso have a great start. Mark Webber is way down the order, he is in 9th place. A real bad start for him. Massa takes advantage and gets ahead. He is in 4th position. Trulli in the pits for a nose change. Button goes up one position. He takes P6. Schumacher is in 11th position. A great start from him considering this is the first time he is racing on this track.

Lap 3
There is debris coming from Lewis Hamiltons car and Alonso is told to push. Will Lewis come into the pits? We will find out soon.

Lap 5
Vettel does the fastest lap. He is in 1st position followed by Lewis and Alonso. Trulli back into the pits. Looks like its race over for him. Vettel is about 3 seconds ahead of Lewis. Alonso is behind the two in 3rd position, then its Massa, Kubica, & Button who take 4th, 5th, & 6th place.

Lap 8
Webber into th pits for a tyre change. Slight delay in the pit stops. He took 7.9 secs as the left front tyre was not coming out. Meanwhile Alonso catching up Lewis. He just does the fastest lap. He is less than 2 seconds behind Lewis.

Lap 9
Mark webber has a massive shunt with Heiki. Thankfully he is unhurt. Safety car is out. Everyone is into the pits for a tyre change except for a few.

Lap 12
Schumi into the pits a very wrong strategy for him. They should have brought him in earlier on. He rejoins in 19th place. Alonso and Massa are in 10th and 17th place. Vettel is in 1st place, Lewis in 2nd , Kobayashi is in 3rd place. Kobayashi is yet to pit though.

Lap 15
Safety car now leaves the track. Alonso does a superb overtaking manoeuvere on Nico Hulkenberg. He is now in 9th position. He is now all over Adrian Sutil. Meanwhile Kobayashi who is in 3rd place is 4 seconds behind race leader Vettel. He is controlling the pace of the race.

Everyone is bottling up behind him. Button is in 4th, Barrichello in 5th, Kubica is in 6th, Buemi is in 7th place, Sutil is in 8th, Alonso in 9th, and Hulkenberg in 10th place complete the top 10 positions. Massa is in 15th position closing in on Tonio.

Lap 20
Nico has been asked to ease out on the brakes. Meanwhile there is no change in the top 10 positions. Stewards will be investigating car no. 2 which is the car of Lewis Hamiltons. We will know soon.

Lap 25
Kobayashi is now about 14 seconds behind race leader Vettel. He is just not being able to match the pace of Vettel and Lewis. Meanwhile the rest of the pack are behind him. Drive through penalty given to Lewis Hamilton for overtaking the safety car. Very unfortunate for him. Nico Rosberg is in 13th place ahead of Tonio and Massa.

Lap 28
Lewis does his drive through. He comes out on track without losing track position. He is 10 seconds behind race leader Vettel. Kobayashi is in 3rd. Alonso is 26 seconds behind Vettel. He is currently in 9th place. Meanwhile no one on track is even trying to overtake.

Lap 33
All cars are in their respective positions. Not much action happening on track since the last five laps.

Lap 37
Schumi into the pits. He is in the soft compound tyres. Advantage soft tyres? Timo Glock into the pits as well. He tried to overtake Senna. He rejoins in 21st. Senna’s front wing is damaged, he has to get into the pits for a front wing change.

Lap 39
Senna into the pits. There is a problem in getting the front wing out. Sutil gets past Buemi finally. He takes 7th place. Alonso trying to do the same as well but fails. He is all over the tail of Buemi. Alonso currently in 9th place.

Lap 41
Schumi does the fastest lap. Advantage soft compound tyres! He is in 17th place currently.

Lap 46
Vettel is still the race leader followed by Lewis Hamilton. Kobayashi is in 3rd place. Jenso Button is in 4th. The rest of the grid is the same. Meanwhile Karun Chandhok, the Indian driver is in 19th place. The two Ferraris of Alonso and Massa are in 9th and 15th positions respectively.

Lap 51
The Williams car of Nico Hulkenberg who was in 10th place retires. Pedro de la Rossa takes 10th place. Meanwhile Kobayashi who is in 3rd place is yet to pit.

Lap 54
Kobayashi finally gets into the pits. He joins in 9th place. Great drive by him. Button takes 3rd place. Schumacher meanwhile does the fastest lap.

Final Lap
Alonso is all over Buemi. But kobayashi overtakes Alonso thanks to his fresh tyres. He also manages to overtake Buemi in the final corner. This has been a great race for him and the Sauber team. Vettel meanwhile takes 1st place. This is his 7th career victory. Lewis is in 2nd place. Button in 3rd, Barrichello in 4th, Kubica takes 5th place.
